I see your Elizabeth Mitchell/spoon and raise to Elizabeth Mitchell/everyone.

What I hate even more than female character bashing is badly written female characters in a show. Because it's the ultimate form of female character bashing.

Elizabeth Mitchell has RIDICULOUS amounts of chemistry with everyone, this is true. But I mostly ship everyone/everyone anyway so, I always assume I'm a bit biased :)

On the one hand, yes but at the same time, a lot of people seem to use the 'she's poorly written/doesn't get enough character development/only a love interest/so on' excuse as reasons to hate on female characters. And I think there's a difference between female characters who are truly badly written and ones that just don't get enough character development or are surrounded by terrible storylines. For instance, the women of the Stargateverse tended to be overlooked or stuck in ridiculous plots a lot of the time. But I don't really think any of them were badly written, they just got screwed over by the writers.

Yeah, a lot of people do that; it annoys the heck out of me. On the other hand, I've been given the 'you just use it as an excuse to hate on her' speech myselfs once, when I pointed out that a female character was in fact badly written. There's a fine line, especially when people accuse others of something.

Sometimes characters are badly written, and mostly I love them anyway. Sometimes there's shows who have no plot, ridiculous storylines, and ludicrous logic, and mostly I love those, too.

Totally yes to what you say about Stargateverse gals.

You're right, there is a very thin line. And honestly, just disliking a character because she's poorly written (or for whatever reason) is fine. The only thing that really bothers me is when people use disgusting, misogynistic language to express their dislike of said character or wish really horrible things would happen to that character. Like, that's just not necessary.

I agree. Belittling and derogative language is just not necessary; it never is.
