I'm not much for speeches, but I would try to say something towards the context of "Love each other. Stop the hate. We're all unique and will never all agree. Compromise. Make the best of this life. Its short! If you haven't found God--I urge you to find and build a relationship with Him. You'll see how your life will change when you put your faith in Him."
3 thoughts to help you nvigate your way through the world:
Life is too important to be taken seriously, so lighten up.
Don't be a dick.
And finally, heed the words attributed to Marcus Aurielius (and don't worry that he didn't actually write them):
Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.
“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility”
This quote from Longfellow, of course I'd change the 'each man' to 'person'. I've been on this earth for decades and all I can think of basically boils down to this. People hurt. Words hurt. Try not to hurt others. Try to see what we have in common, not what separates us. Don't namecall. It's all...variations on a theme. :)
I probably wouldn't need the whole thirty seconds.
