Hello COFFEEHOUSE! Long time, no chat. How've you been?

Like many Americans, I just spent some time with family this past week. I don't often see many of them and it was one of those stereotypical 'do you remember when...' gab sessions. We sat around telling familiar stories to each other. It made me think of various holiday traditions we've incorporated over the years as our family has expanded and how we always seem to make room for the old even when we have the new.

What sort of traditions do you have over the holiday season?
Is there a special dish that only a select few make? Is there a story a certain loved one always tells? Is there a gag gift that gets passed around? Is there an activity or place of interest you always try to visit? What are you looking forward to? What are you wishing you could avoid?

Any autumn/winter holiday - Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Diwali, Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Years, Boxing Day, Valentine's Day, etc. - whichever you'd like to talk about.

Let's talk make-up! Or just general morning routines. Are you a roll-out-of-bed-and-go person, or do you try on at least six different outfits every morning? Spend an hour on your hair, or head out with it still wet? Can you not walk past a make-up department without checking out the lipstick colours, or have you never been quite sure what one does with lip liner?

How long do you spend getting ready on an average morning?

Day in the Life challenge!

This could be a fun activity to close out the rest of September. If you're not familiar with the challenge, here's the basic run down: pick a random day, and during that day (or 24-hour period, however you want to define your day), take photos of all the things you do. Interesting or not-so-interesting. There's a few ways you can do it. Take one picture every hour. Take one picture every time you do something. Or, my personal favorite, just take pictures whenever you feel like it. Then you upload them all in a post, perhaps with some captions, so we can see what it's like to live a day in your life! :D

You can check out the LJ comm ditl for some examples of what a day in the life entry looks like.

ETA: By the way, you can post your DITL as a new entry to the comm or make an entry at your own journal and cross-post. Whichever you prefer!

Seasonal Eats!

I dunno about you all, but it's now reaching temperatures of over 100F/38C every day and for me, the types of foods I like to eat this time of the year are light, easy to make, and often not hot. I'm curious what you all like to eat this time of the year too!

What's in your summer foods repertoire? Snacks, meals, frozen treats? (Or if you're in the southern hemisphere, what's in your winter foods repertoire?)

my comic book drawers

(I'll definitely be making more than one post for this activity cause I love doing arts & crafts type stuff and I've got several projects going on at the moment, this is just the first one I've finished this month. XD)

I have an Ikea Expedit bookcase and a while ago I got some slide-in drawers to hold my comic books, and I decorated them. My comic collection is slowly expanding so I got some more drawers and decorated those and added them in. Behind the cut is way too many pictures of my decorating process of the two new drawers. :D

I'll probably have a lot to share this month as I LOVE arts and crafts - but I'll start off with something new to me. I used to have a collection of ceramic dolphins, and they were all stolen when my brother in law robbed my house and stole almost all our sentimental things (and absolutely nothing of value, except some xanax, the jerk). Anyway, I made this a couple weeks ago to restart my collection. It's my first attempt with clay, and I don't think it turned out too badly!

Hello Coffee House!! How are things?

Getting a glimpse of 'home' was rather fun in May, thank you to all who posted and discussed.

For the month of June, I challenge you to make a post to the community involving ARTS & CRAFTS. I had a tangent that got me to the idea -- it involved summer camp as a child, crayons, rubber bands and coffee cans. But I won't bore you all with the details.
Instead, I want to know what sort of ARTS & CRAFTS you engage in. Make something and share!

Some ideas you could use:
- knit a Jayne Cobb hat
- build a macaroni castle
- take up calligraphy
- repurpose something random and decorate it as a birdbath or lawn ornament
- make a felt taco
- I hear http://pinterest.com/ can be kinda crafty -- what have you found?

Don't do arts & crafts? Why not? Wouldn't it be fun to try something for no reason other than it might be kinda fun?

I'm not crafty, but I will do SOMETHING even if it's nothing more than a page out of a coloring book. Who's with me?

my neighborhood

For the May theme I decided to take some photos around my neighborhood while I ran a couple errands. I had a grand design of taking a long walk around the neighborhood and take lots of pictures but it's about 100F outside right now and I lost the will to live immediately stepping outside my door. So it's just stuff from right around my place, sorry. XD So anyway, I live in Tempe, Arizona, USA, about 20 mins outside Phoenix. It's the desert, and it's hot.
