Because a lot of people are finding a home in dreamwidth, all communities promoted here or that we know about will be placed in this post. If you want to list a community, just say so in the comments.

fandom_on_dw, dw_community_promo, fandomcalendar, and bigbangindex are a good place to look for fannish communities and challenges.

fandomcalendar - A general bulletin board for various ficathons, exchanges, challenges, etc.
fic_promptly - Multi-fandom comment-fic community similar to comment_fic on lj.
fanart_recs - Exactly what the name says.
fancake - A thematic, multi-fandom fanfic rec community.
bestthingever - For recs of really great, brand new fic.
fandom_fanvids - Multi-fandom fanvid community.
fanbingo - An ongoing, no-deadlines bingo.

graphics - pretty much what it says on the tin, folks.

iconthat - a weekly icon challenge community.
10tropes - a new comm. There's a list of tropes taken from TV Tropes and the idea is you choose ten of those tropes and write fics for them.
treatyodeskop - for sharing wallpapers/desktops
overlooked - The idea is to claim and write for an overlooked fandom, character, or pairing. You define "overlooked"
scans_daily - a comic community
10_letters - 10-letters is a no-pressure fiction writing comm centered on characters writing letters. Any fandom or original fiction is welcome!
1sentencefic - A community for people who want to write just one sentence for each theme.
fandom_prompts - In this community, a writer and artist can find prompts that may provide inspiration in whatever they are trying to do.
ficondemand - a place where you may make requests for fanfic, and/or fulfill other people's requests for fanfic. Writers are encouraged to view the requests as challenges; get inspired and have fun answering someone else's request.
song_prompt - dedicated to using songs as prompts. All fandoms are welcome.
15_minute_fic - you have a prompt word and you have fifteen minutes. It's up to you to complete an entire ficlet from those two items.
asexual_fandom - As the name says: Ace + Fandom = Awesome
crossovers - crossover fic or art
dark_agenda - runs kaleidoscope alongside yuletide every year, for fandoms with chromatic characters or creators
not_primetime is for mid-sized fandoms that are ineligible for yuletide
daysofawesome - The Days of Awe are the period around the Jewish high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

babysitters100 is a fanfiction community for fans of Ann M. Martin's Baby-sitters Club series. Choose from five tables of 100 prompts. No time limits and very few other limitations. We're always keen for new people to join the comm, and the fandom is so, so supportive and friendly. ♥

10tropes is a really new comm. There's a list of tropes taken from TV Tropes and the idea is you choose ten of those tropes and write fics for them. Any fandom, any pairing, etc. It's still kind of taking shape so it might be a bit patchy for a while, but there has been quite a bit of fic posted between DW and LJ already!
